Dolan is most certainly a mover and shaker in America–both in the ecclesial sphere and in the secular sphere.
He has helped the Church recover a sense of hope and self-determination after the fallout from the abuse crisis. A spirit of pride (and even a hint of triumphalism) is returning to the Catholic Church after a decade-long cloud of gloom and penitence. In the political arena, he has been a level-headed spokesperson for principled policy-making. He speaks frankly and relates to the common man. Whether people are in agreement with him or in diametric opposition to him, they listen to what he says because his messages have a far reach, large audience, and a stealthy capacity to achieve their intended goals.
